Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Refurbishing Program

The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Refurbishing Program works in partnership with the non-profit organization IndependenceFirst Mobility Store, formerly called the Wheelchair Recycling Program. DME of all kinds collected by IndependenceFirst is brought to the institution weekly, where it is cleaned, tested, repaired and reassembled. This equipment is then returned to IndependenceFirst and distributed to Wisconsin citizens of all ages who have neither the insurance nor the funds to obtain the medical equipment they need. In addition, the DME Refurbishing Program at RGCI repairs DOC manual wheelchairs for the Health Services Units from many institutions and other non-profit organizations around the state as well.
